D.C.-area forecast: Today’s cloudy and damp weather will continue at times into

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: “Gray May” continues with similar cool, damp conditions to Tuesday, but we should see some drier times — even peeks of sun — by late day.

  • Today: A.M. rain, P.M. showers. Highs: Mid-60s to near 70.
  • Tonight: Lower rain chances, patchy fog. Lows: Mid-50s to around 60.
  • Tomorrow: Continued rain chance decline, breezy. Highs: 69-76.

Still cool and unsettled today, like yesterday, and we could see some downpours cause a few spots of flooding around D.C. and points south of town. Rain intensity — even overcast skies — ease a bit by late day, allowing a few rays of sunshine perhaps. Rain chances notably decline late Thursday into much of Friday, with more breaks in the overcast possible at times.

Today (Wednesday): Periods of rain continue from pre-dawn into the morning hours with some patchy fog possible. By midday, rain should turn lighter, more showery and sporadic. A few mid-to-late afternoon storms are also possible, especially if we see longer periods of sun (which may destabilize the atmosphere).

Breezes from the east and northeast may gust up to 15 mph or so. High temperatures top out in the low-to-mid-60s to near 70 in the least cloudy spots. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: We could see just a bit of clearing at times as chances for stray showers and their potential intensity both decrease with time. If we see a thunderstorm move through, it may favor earlier evening hours. Patches of fog are also possible. A light but somewhat steady breeze blows from the north as low temperatures near sunrise bottom out in the mid-50s to around 60. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Shower chances decline with time but can’t be totally ruled out even during the afternoon. Generally gray skies could give way to a bit of sunshine, particularly late day.

We may have some noticeable breeze from the north at times, gusting to 20 mph or so a few times. At least temperatures aim a bit warmer, from the upper 60s to the low-to-mid 70s in the sunnier spots. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: An evening shower remains possible but not a high chance. We may clear into partly cloudy conditions for the most part, as low temperatures again aim for the mid-50s to around 60 degrees. Confidence: Medium

Very low rain chances (around 10 percent) Friday with clouds dominating more often than not. There’s a bit of hope for partly sunny skies at times, but we need to wait until we get closer. The potential return of more pleasant conditions should allow even-warmer high temperatures within a few degrees of 75. Shower chances may slowly return overnight, with familiar low temperatures in the mid-50s to around 60 degrees. Confidence: Medium

The weekend, especially Saturday, looks rather cloudy and wet as of now. Given this, high temperatures are favored to be at the lower end of their potential wide range with the best bet for highs being in the mid-60s to around 70 degrees. Of the two days, Saturday will probably be rainier. While we try to dry out Sunday, some showers could linger — especially in our southern areas early in the day. Overnight low temperatures may aim for the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Low-Medium
