2024 NFL Draft schedule, guide
Welcome to NFL Draft month! With just 24 days until the Chicago Bears make the first of 257 picks in this year’s draft — their first No. 1 pick since 1947 — let’s prep. A quick primer:
Where and when:
- Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza of the Detroit downtown area
- Round 1: Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET
- Rounds 2 and 3: Friday, April 26
- Rounds 4 through 7: Saturday, April 27
Attend and/or watch:
- You can attend all three days for free. Register on the web or by downloading the NFL OnePass app. Also see this NFL Draft Fan Guide.
- Channels covering the draft include NFL Network, ABC, ESPN and ESPN Deportes. But all this is background as you’re refreshing social channels, right?
The most valuable picks are held by:
- The Cardinals (13 picks, six in top 100 and No. 4 overall) rank first, while the Commanders (nine picks, six in top 100 and No. 2 overall) are a close second in Tankathon’s rankings.
- The Bears have just four draft picks, but two in the top 10 places them third in total pick value.
- The Packers (11 picks, five in top 100) are the highest-ranked team that had a winning record in 2023, sitting sixth.
- The Browns rank last, with only five total picks and no first-round selection, thanks to their six-pick trade for Deshaun Watson.
What the experts say:
What the odds say:
- Per our friends at BetMGM, QB Caleb Williams remains the betting favorite to go No. 1.
- QB Jayden Daniels, QB Drake Maye and WR Marvin Harrison Jr. are favored to go No. 2, 3, 4, respectively.
- The Vikings are the favorite to draft QBs J.J. McCarthy and Michael Penix Jr. (not that they’d pick both), while the Broncos are expected to draft QB Bo Nix.
- The Jets are favored to draft TE Brock Bowers, who would add needed receiver depth for Aaron Rodgers. Speaking of the Jets’ GM QB, what are you hearing, Dianna?
What Dianna’s Hearing: Aaron Rodgers’ strong grip
Last offseason, we saw Rodgers bring along friends like Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard. After a failed season, Colin Cowherd asked me if the dynamic has changed in New York.
My answer: No, Rodgers hasn’t lost any power at all. He’s still involved in every decision the Jets make.
That said, Rodgers and the Jets are doing everything to move on from last year’s dysfunction. They made decent signings this offseason, adding All-Pro LT Tyron Smith and WR Mike Williams (plus the addition discussed below), but again it comes down to one thing: Health.
Back to you, Jacob.
Weekend Headline: Jets acquire Reddick, go for broke
On Saturday, the Jets acquired Pro-Bowl OLB Haason Reddick from the Eagles in exchange for a conditional third-round draft pick in 2026.
The pick becomes a second-rounder if Reddick has 10 sacks and plays 65 percent of the Jets’ defensive snaps in 2024, which I’m betting the Jets watch closely.
Some considered Reddick the Eagles’ best defensive player over the past two years, as he had 27 sacks and 24 tackles for loss. In 2023, Reddick, OLB Micah Parsons and OLB Josh Allen were the only players to record six or more pressures in eight games.
- Eagles GM Howie Roseman moves Reddick, 30 in September and in the final year of his contract, after signing 25-year-old DE Bryce Huff away from … the Jets.
- The Jets acquire last season’s seventh best in pass run win rate (per PFF, Huff ranked eighth) for what’s looking like a make-or-break season.
If the Jets don’t extend Reddick, they could receive a…
