BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Thursday announced that more than $900 million in grants will go to 114 airports in 44 states and three territories, and some of those funds will be coming to the Alabama Gulf Coast.
The money will go toward terminal improvement projects to improve the passenger experience and create jobs.
According to the DOT, Gulf Shores International Airport at Jack Edwards Field will receive $5 million to fund the construction of a new commercial terminal.
H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope has been awarded $2 million dollars for terminal building and site development on the east side of the airfield.
In north Alabama, Huntsville International Airport will receive $7 million for terminal and concourse renovations.
