FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs and the city of Fairhope are teaming up to host a veterans well-being town hall and resource fair. Officials say the event will help to show veterans the resources that are available to them.
According to a press release, the Veterans Well-Being Resource Fair is set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26 at the James P. Nix Senior Center.
TOWN HALL LOCATION:
Officials say the town hall is being held in response to a state-wide effort called Alabama’s Challenge for Preventing Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families, which aims to combat the stigma Veterans face with mental illness.
The event will feature a keynote address from State Rep. Frances Holk-Jones about a personal experience with suicide. A resource fair at the event will provide an opportunity to meet with the ADVA Veterans Service Officers to learn more about how to apply for VA benefits, file for compensation and pension claims, access healthcare, and discuss programs.
There will also be well-being and mental-health resources from the Alabama Coast in attendance.
