A cement truck hit and killed a man in a wheelchair on a street under Interstate 93 in South Boston on Tuesday morning, police said.
Friends of the man said he’d been asking for spare change when he was hit by the truck.
State police didn’t share the man’s identity when confirming that he died. Their investigation into what happened was ongoing.
The incident took place about 10:11 a.m. near the intersection of Frontage Road and Traveler Street, Massachusetts State Police said. (They initially gave the location as Frontage Road and West 4th Street.) The location is underneath an elevated section of I-93 just south of downtown Boston.
The cement truck appeared to have stayed at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone would face charges or be cited in the crash.
The ramp to Albany Street was closed during the investigation, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
