The application window will be open from April 1 – 15, 2024. DDOT expects to fulfill 250 vouchers with the 2024 funding.
WASHINGTON — If you live in Washington, D.C. and want to know how to get an e-bike at zero cost to you, then listen up.
According to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), applications will be open from April 1 to April 15 for the District Bicycle Incentive Program, which helps residents buy electric bicycles and supports bicycle businesses in the District.
When the applicants are picked, DDOT will issue each applicant a voucher to be used to buy an e-bike at an authorized retailer. The retailer reduces the up-front purchase price by the amount of the voucher.
Officials say the first application window will be open to Preferred Applicants only, which are District residents enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, or the DC Healthcare Alliance. If funds are still available, a second application window will open to Standard Applicants.
DDOT expects to fulfill 250 vouchers with the 2024 funding.
District residents must apply in advance and be approved before purchasing an electric bicycle. Retroactive rebates are not allowed. To participate in the program, individuals must:
- Be a District resident;
- Be over 18 years old;
- Be a Preferred Applicant (enrolled in SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or DC Healthcare Alliance); and
- Intend to purchase an eligible bicycle-bike or related service or accessory after approval.
