A woman has been accused of stealing from the U.S. Department of Energy.
A federal grand jury indicted Effie Mae Youmans on Feb. 6 on a charge of theft of governmental property valued over $1,000, according to federal court documents filed in the Aiken division of the District of South Carolina.
It is unknown what Youmans is accused of stealing or its value. However, the court documents indicate cash proceeds of $54,450 are subject to forfeiture.
The office of Adair Burroughs, the attorney for the federal district of South Carolina, declined to comment on the indictment. The Department of Energy also declined to comment on the indictment.
The indictment does not offer details beyond its connection to the Department of Energy, but the agency owns the 310-square-mile Savannah River Site that employs more than 10,000 people, which is within the jurisdiction of the Aiken division.
Theft of government property valued over $10,000 is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
