INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are on the scene of a reported fatal accident on the east side of Indianapolis.
IMPD East District officers responded to the area of E 21st and N Irwin St. around 8:30 a.m. on Friday on reports of a fatal accident. Officials said the accident involved two cars.
IMPD officials said there is at least one confirmed fatality, who they identified as “the driver of one of the involved vehicles.” Officials said the driver of the second vehicle was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. A child in the second vehicle was also transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
Traffic is expected to be impacted in this area for “several hours,” according to IMPD, due to the ongoing investigation.
“We are asking all drivers and pedestrians to seek an alternate route,” an IMPD news release said. “Fatal accident investigators have responded to the scene.”
