INDIANAPOLIS — Indy Parks has invited the public to attend an open house this week to listen to the city’s plans regarding future improvements at Krannert Park and three other parks around the Circle City.
The event is part of Indy Parks’ efforts to gauge public feedback on the improvements that are planned for the playground, walking trails and basketball court at Krannert Park. The open house is scheduled for Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the west side park, which is located at 605 S. High School Road.
The improvements are being funded by a $3.7 million Lily Endowment initiative. Park improvements are also planned at Franklin Township Park, Garfield Park and Parks of Eagle Creek.
On Monday, Mayor Joe Hogsett and park officials unveiled the renovated Krannert Park Family Center as part of a $10.8 million project under the mayor’s Circle City Forward Initiative. The renovated family center now features a brand-new indoor pool, a fitness room and expanded office spaces to accommodate an enclosed outdoor area for event hosting.
The city began construction on Krannert Park in October 2022.
The Family Center will operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the week and will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
Indy Parks said construction of the new Frederick Douglass Park Family Center is scheduled to conclude this spring while the Grassy Creek Environmental Education Center is set to finish this upcoming fall. Meanwhile, the Riverside Adventure Park is set to be completed at the end of the year.
