Winger Jack Quinn returned to practice with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, rejoining the team for the first time since injuring his ankle late in the Jan. 27 victory at San Jose.
Quinn had surgery on the ankle, and the team has maintained an eight-week timetable for his return, so coming back Tuesday was right on schedule. Quinn’s return had been up in the air and, General Manager Kevyn Adams admitted recently that the 22-year-old was running out of runway to return this season.
Quinn missed the first 32 games of the season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered during an off-ice workout in June. But he was full speed when he returned in December, and had collected five goals and 12 points in the 17 games he played before the injury, which he suffered during a collision with San Jose’s Tomas Hertl.
Quinn appeared to be at full speed, taking line rushes in practice with center Dylan Cozens and winger JJ Peterka.

Quinn had also become an ace penalty killer, and the Sabres’ PK unit had gone 22 for 24 in a stretch before the all-star break until his injury.
The Sabres were practicing at home for the first time since March 15. After going 2-3 on their longest road trip of the season, they open a five-game homestand here Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators.
