COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two deadlines for participating in the presidential primary are this week: Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote and early voting both in-person and by absentee, mail-in ballot begins Wednesday.
Ohio’s primary election is March 19. While Donald Trump is likely to be the Republican nominee and Joe Biden is likely to be the Democratic nominee, voters will have say in the presidential race, and dozens of other federal, state legislative and local races.
This includes registered Republicans, who can choose among state Sen. Matt Dolan of Chagrin Falls, Secretary of State Frank LaRose and former Cleveland area car dealer Bernie Moreno as their nominee for the U.S. Senate. The winner will face Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown in November.
And registered Democrats can choose Judges Lisa Forbes or Terry Jamison for Ohio Supreme Court as the party’s nominee to face Republican Judge Dan Hawkins in November.
Register to vote by Tuesday
Tuesday is the deadline to register to vote in the primary.
To register to vote or update your voter registration, visit VoteOhio.gov, where there are instructions in English and Spanish. Before beginning, Ohioans will need their state driver’s license or Ohio identification card number, as well as the last four digits of their social security number, according to Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office.
If a perspective voter does not have this information, they can still register to vote by printing and mailing an application to their county board of election, which is on the VoteOhio.gov website. Or they can do so in person at their county board of elections. Mailed applications to register to vote must be postmarked by Tuesday.

Begin early voting on Wednesday
In-person early voting begins Wednesday at Ohio’s 88 county board of elections.
The first batch of absentee ballots voters have requested also will be mailed on Wednesday. To request an absentee ballot, voters must download and mail a form to the county board of election. Forms are available on the Secretary of State’s website, or via the county board of elections. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is March 12. And all mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than March 18.
To vote early and in person, the addresses of the following Northeast Ohio counties are below, as well as their times of operations. Websites are also linked for people who need the form to request an absentee mail-in ballot.

–Lorain County Board of Elections: 1985 North Ridge Road East, Lorain
–Medina County Board of Elections: 3800 Stonegate Drive, Suite C, Medina.
–Lake County Board of Elections: 105 Main St., Suite 107, Painesville
–Geauga County Board of Elections: 470 Center St., Building 6A, Chardon
–Portage County Board of Elections, 449 S. Meridian St., Room 101, Ravenna

Times the boards of elections will be open for early, in-person voting are as follows:
– 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays through March 8.
-On Saturday, March 9, the boards will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
-On Monday, March 11 through Friday, March 15, they’ll be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
-On Saturday, March 16, they’ll be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
-On Sunday, March 17, they’ll be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
-There is no voting the Monday before Election Day, March 18.
