Erik ten Hag says Manchester United “have an idea” of what is causing their spate of muscle injuries and “will deal with it”.
United were dealt a blow on Tuesday with the news that defenders Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof will be out for a month with respective calf and hamstring issues.
Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial are longer-term absentees, while reserve goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is a doubt ahead of Thursday’s Premier League game at Chelsea.
“We have an idea (about the cause of the muscle injuries) but we will work on it,” Ten Hag said on Wednesday. “Internally, we will deal with it.”
Asked if he would share that idea, Ten Hag replied: “No.”
United have struggled with injuries all season, with Martinez, Rasmus Hojlund, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Mount, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Kobbie Mainoo all missing for large parts.

“No more issues,” Ten Hag added on the status of his squad ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge. “On the frontline and midfield we are OK and we have options there but in the backline we have a lack of options.
“But the good thing is back in training this afternoon is Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans. Yesterday, Harry Maguire was back in training.
Ten Hag was also asked if he would change his approach in response to United’s injury troubles.
“You can’t prevent (it),” the Dutchman said. “It’s not only us who’ve had this — the standards of the Premier League from an intensity perspective are so high, the overload of the schedule, we have internationals in our squad. City, Liverpool and Newcastle have problems, many other teams.”
Following the Chelsea game, United host Liverpool on Sunday before welcoming Bournemouth to Old Trafford the following Saturday.
