Small business owners, who comprise the majority of Key Biscayne’s commerce, may apply for Miami-Dade County’s “Mom and Pop” grants now through March 15, according to Commissioner Raquel Regalado.
Only for-profit businesses within District 7 that have been open for over two years can apply. Eligible businesses may receive up to $3,000.
Small business owners on Key Biscayne are plentiful and have taken advantage of national trends, such as Small Business Saturday, the day after Black Friday, and National Small Business Week, April 28-May 4 this year.
On March 14, Miami’s Small Business Expo takes place at the Miami Airport Convention Center, and Key Biscayne’s Chamber of Commerce also has hosted Master Classes in the proper way to start a business.
Small businesses, more than 150 of them, make up two-thirds of the island’s workplaces, including independent Realtors.
“It is the heart and soul of our community,” said Tatyana Chiocchetti, the Chamber’s executive director.
