According to previous reports, officers with the Beech Grove Police Department were dispatched around 6:47 a.m. to Parkview Apartments in the 3600 block of Pearlbush Avenue after an officer in the area heard approximately 20-30 shots being fired.
Dispatch then received additional calls stating that multiple shots were heard in the same area near Pearlbush Avenue and Snapdragon Avenue, court documents said.
Responding officers were then notified that two children were suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers arrived and found a 7-year-old girl and a 15-year-old female who had been injured in the shootout. The victims were injured when gunshots rang through two apartment buildings at the location.
The victims were transported to Riley Children’s Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and were initially reported to be in stable condition by Beech Grove police.
As officers arrived to investigate, they observed multiple holes in the drywall of one of the affected apartment units. Officers also found more juveniles and adults inside the apartment who were not suffering from any injuries but “were invisibly shaken by the incident.”
One of the adults reportedly told police that they observed a white Dodge Charger with dark-tinted windows driving eastbound as it left the scene after the shots rang out, court documents said. Another resident corroborated this, who told investigators that they also observed a white Dodge Charger driving eastbound after the incident.
The witness added that they did not know anyone who drove a charger or anyone who would want to do something like this.
As authorities arrived at the scene to investigate, detectives found multiple spent shell casings littered throughout a grassy patch behind the 5400 block of Pearlbush Avenue.
One of the apartment’s residents reportedly told police that they were woken up by the commotion and believed at the time that the sounds were caused by “electrical pops.” The resident only realized it was gunfire when their sliding glass door shattered.
In total, court documents said officers recovered 76 fired shell casings,10 metal fragments, seven fired bullets and three fired bullet jackets.
Investigators were able to obtain recorded footage that allegedly showed a white Dodge Charger entering a parking lot of the apartment complex from the southbound lanes of Ritter Avenue before it turned west onto Snapdragon Lane. The shots fired incident was not captured by that specific camera, according to court documents.
A witness reportedly alerted detectives to a social media post made by Johnson that showed two people holding firearms. The witness claimed that the post was made shortly after the shooting happened.
A detective observed images of a Dodge Charger on a camera system located to the south of Garstang Avenue facing south on Ritter Avenue around 6:40 a.m. Importantly, the camera provided detectives with a clear view of a Dodge Charger that they believed was the suspect vehicle.
Detectives then used the images to identify the vehicle’s plate…
