EV Charging Company EnviroSpark Secures $50 Million Investment from Basalt Infrastructure Partners
US electric vehicle (EV) charging company EnviroSpark Energy Solutions announced it has secured a $50 million investment by funds advised by Basalt Infrastructure Partners an infrastructure equity investment firm focusing on investments in Europe and North America. This investment will enable EnviroSpark to expand its owned and operated network across the US.
REC Silicon to Start Polysilicon Shipments from Moses Lake plant in Q2
US-based polysilicon manufacturer REC Silicon expects to ship the first solar-grade polysilicon from its Moses Lake, Washington facility by the end of June. In a public statement, the company said that it “continues its ramp-up activities by improving, optimising, and increasing the production capacity at the Moses Lake facility”. Full operational production at the site is expected by the end of 2024, with the first shipment expected before the end of Q2. REC Silicon remains one of the few polysilicon manufacturers in the US.
US shingle provider GAF Energy opens 250MW manufacturing plant in Texas
US-based solar shingle (solar tile) maker GAF Energy has opened a 250MW solar shingle factory in Georgetown, Texas.
The company said the latest solar shingle factory will “increase its capacity by 500%” and bring total production of its solar shingle to 300MW annually, meaning that the factory boasts a manufacturing capacity of 250MW.
The 450,000 square foot factory will produce GAF Energy’s Timberline solar shingles.
Solar cells and cadmium telluride research In focus for $20 million grants from US DOE
The US Department of Energy (DOE) has launched a funding opportunity worth up to US$20 million through the 2024 Photovoltaics Research and Development initiative.
The funding is open to applications from groups to join the DOE’s ‘teaming partner list’ to collaborate with other applicants and launch joint proposals for funding. Carried out by the US DOE’s Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), the DOE expects to allocate funding to between eight and 15 projects, with each to receive $1-4 million. The deadline to submit a letter of intent has been set to 12 June 2024. These fundings are typically provided as grants.
