CHICAGO — Chicago police told WGN-TV that Area Three detectives are questioning two people of interest in last month’s North Side shooting that killed a teenager outside his high school, though no charges have been filed yet.
Daveon Gibson, 16, was killed and two other students were injured in a shooting outside Senn High School in the Edgewater neighborhood on Jan. 31.
Police say the three teenagers were on the sidewalk near the corner of North Lakewood and West Thorndale avenues, about 20 minutes after Senn High School dismissed students for the day, when an unknown vehicle pulled up and a suspect got out and started firing.
Gibson was shot and killed, another 16-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital after he was shot in the jaw, chest and left arm and a 15-year-old was also shot in the leg.
Earlier this month, Gibson was honored during a vigil held by Senn High School students and the community. People spoke out about the pain that’s been felt after losing the 16-year-old student to senseless violence.
At Gibson’s funeral, his grandmother, Sherry Wesley, was adamant about police finding out who killed her grandson.
“One thing I want is justice for my baby,” Wesley said then. “If it takes the last breath I have, I’m going to be in court every day.”
