The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Nate Evans:
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, arrived today in Monrovia to lead the U.S. delegation to Liberia’s presidential inauguration to be held on January 22, 2024. Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., and Minister of Defense Major General Daniel Dee Ziankahn, Jr. greeted Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield upon her arrival.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield met with outgoing Liberian President George Manneh Weah and commended him for his commitment to Liberia’s democracy and peaceful transition of power.
The Ambassador also visited the historic Providence Baptist Church, which was established in 1821 by Black American settlers. Liberia’s Declaration of Independence was signed at Providence in 1847.
