The Washington Capitals have lost six games in a row. Now tensions appear to be rising.
Late in the second period of the Capitals’ 4-2 loss to the Florida Panthers, Monumental Sports Network cameras showed a fiery Spencer Carbery on the bench.
With the Caps up 2-1 and 3:20 left on the clock, the Capitals 42-year-old rookie head coach had some loud words for 36-year-old veteran Max Pacioretty.
I’m not a professional lip reader, but it appears at first, Carbery is trying to fire up his team by saying “Let’s go! Let’s go.” Then he begins saying something to Pacioretty. The former Canadiens captain looks at Carbery for a second before quickly turning away. Carbery has been described by his past players in the minors as a huge competitor.
Pacioretty was on the ice for the Panthers’ first goal of the night, where he struggled to get out to the point to defend a Gustav Forsling shot. Matthew Tkachuk, camped out in the crease, then redirected the puck past Darcy Kuemper with his skate.

Pacioretty did not return to the ice after the goal, completing his shift at 16 seconds. Pacioretty skated only 2:43 in the second period. Only Michael Sgarbossa (2:10) and Anthony Mantha (2:40) saw the ice less in the stanza.
Pacioretty, who has one goal and six assists in his first 14 games with the Capitals, received his third-lowest ice time of the year against the Panthers, skating only 12:54.
