The CTA and Metra both reported train issues Tuesday morning as frigid temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills continue across the Chicago area.
CTA
According to the CTA, Red Line service at 7:11 a.m. was temporarily suspended between Howard and Belmont “due to a mechanical problem on a train.”
“As a result, trains are operating only between 95t and Belmont at this time,” an alert from the agency said.
The issue also impacted Yellow and Purple Lines for a time being, although service to those lines has been restored, the agency said.
The agency would did confirmed if the problems were weather related.
Metra
According to Metra, inbound Rock Island train #404 scheduled to arrive in Chicago 6:57 a.m. was stopped at 111th street due to the “train striking a vehicle.”
“The estimated time of delay is unknown,” Metra added.
A Metra spokesperson told NBC Chicago the vehicle was struck on the train tracks, and is still in the process of being removed.

No one in the vehicle or on the train was injured, Metra added.
Metra’s Rock Island line travels from Joliet to Chicago, with stops including New Lenox, Tinley Park and Oak Forest.
